"Sushi? After all that?"
Timothy wiped the blood off his sword with a rag, his nonchalant demeanor not matching the carnage surrounding them. "Yeah, sushi. We just wiped out a horde of monsters and an Architect of the Void. I think we've earned a break." His eyes scanned the ruined cityscape, picking up faint traces of life amid the wreckage. "Plus, I’m starving."
Iris stifled a laugh. "Only you would suggest sushi after nearly being vaporized by a cosmic entity."
"That’s just me. I keep it simple," Timothy shrugged. "Let’s find some food. The next wave is bound to hit soon, and I don’t like fighting on an empty stomach."
They walked through the empty streets, passing through the destruction caused by their recent battle. Burnt-out cars, *****ed buildings, and charred bodies lined the path as they made their way toward the city center. The eerie silence was occasionally punctuated by distant explosions as the city struggled to deal with the aftermath of the attack.
Yet amidst the rubble, life went on. A few brave vendors had reopened their stalls, and one sushi joint stood defiantly amidst the carnage. A flickering neon sign, half-lit, displayed the words "Neo-Sushi Deluxe."
"That’ll do," Timothy said, strolling toward the establishment as though there wasn’t a world-ending crisis unfolding around them.
The sliding doors opened with a ding, and the scent of fresh sushi filled the air. The inside was shockingly clean, untouched by the chaos outside. At the counter, an old man, balding and hunched, worked diligently behind a sushi bar. His fingers moved with grace as he sliced and rolled the fish, seemingly unaware or unbothered by the destruction that had unfolded just beyond his door.
"You two here for food?" the man asked, looking up for the first time. His eyes were sharp, a bit too sharp for someone his age, but he offered a genuine smile.
"Yeah, sushi, the good stuff," Timothy replied, dropping into one of the bar seats like he hadn’t just saved the universe.
Iris followed reluctantly. "How are you so calm?" she whispered, eyeing him with mild disbelief. "We just fought a god-tier entity, and now we're eating sushi?"
Timothy glanced at her, raising an eyebrow. "If I freaked out every time I fought something beyond reason, I’d have lost my mind billions of years ago. Food is essential. Enjoy the little things."
The sushi chef prepared their plates with quiet efficiency. As Timothy and Iris started eating, the calm atmosphere was almost surreal. Crisp rolls, fresh fish, and perfectly cut sashimi lined their plates. Timothy devoured each bite like a man who hadn’t eaten in years, while Iris nibbled cautiously, still on edge.
"You really don’t get rattled, do you?" Iris finally said, her voice low, as if not to disturb the strange peace they’d found in the middle of a battlefield.
Timothy shrugged, popping another piece of sashimi into his mouth. "I’ve been around for a long time. You learn not to let things bother you after the first few hundred apocalypses. Plus, it’s kind of funny. I mean, the whole world could be ending, but sushi? Sushi stays perfect."
Iris shook her head, unable to suppress a small smile. "You're impossible."

The Calm Shattered
Just as they were finishing their meal, Timothy’s senses flared. The soft buzz of energy he felt earlier was back—stronger this time. His chopsticks froze mid-air, his eyes narrowing. He could feel it before it happened—the pulse of dark energy, so thick and cold that it made the hair on the back of his neck stand up.
Iris noticed the change in his demeanor. "What is it?"
Timothy placed the chopsticks down carefully. "We’re not alone."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the door to the sushi bar exploded inward. Shards of glass and debris flew through the air as a hulking figure stormed into the restaurant. It was a Black Legion assassin—this one far more advanced and dangerous than the creatures they had faced earlier. Its body was sleek, covered in black, cybernetic armor that shimmered with a dark, malevolent energy.
Behind it, a dozen more followed, each one equipped with advanced weaponry and glowing red eyes that locked onto their targets: Timothy and Iris.
"Well, that was quick," Timothy muttered, standing up slowly.
The sushi chef ducked behind the counter without a word, as though he’d seen this sort of thing before. Timothy sighed and *****ed his neck, turning to Iris. "I guess we should’ve ordered takeout."
Without hesitation, the Black Legion soldiers opened fire, sending a barrage of high-energy plasma bolts toward them. The restaurant was quickly reduced to rubble as beams of light scorched through the air, disintegrating everything in their path. Timothy leaped in front of Iris, his body moving faster than the speed of light as he deflected the incoming attacks with his sword.
Each plasma bolt that hit him disintegrated harmlessly against his skin. Timothy’s invulnerability was absolute. He moved through the storm of fire as if it were nothing, his sword flashing with deadly precision.
In a single motion, he sliced through three of the soldiers, their heads rolling off their bodies before they could even register his attack. Blood sprayed across the room, staining the once-pristine sushi bar with crimson streaks. Timothy’s eyes were cold and focused, his movements as smooth as water yet as brutal as a hurricane.
Iris wasn’t far behind. Her blade danced through the air, carving through the cybernetic soldiers with deadly accuracy. She moved like a whirlwind of steel, dodging plasma blasts and slicing through armor as if it were paper. One soldier lunged at her, a blade extending from its arm, but she dodged to the side and drove her sword through its skull. The creature dropped lifeless to the ground, its body twitching as sparks flew from its damaged circuits.
More soldiers poured into the restaurant, their black armor gleaming in the dim light. Timothy grinned, his body brimming with energy. "Alright, let’s make this interesting."
He charged forward, moving so fast that he became a blur. His sword cut through the air, slicing through one soldier’s neck and severing another’s arm in the same motion. Blood sprayed in all directions as limbs were torn apart and bodies were reduced to mangled heaps of flesh and metal.
One soldier, larger than the others, roared and charged at Timothy with a massive energy blade. But Timothy met the attack head-on, his sword clashing with the glowing weapon in a shower of sparks. The force of the impact shook the building, but Timothy stood firm, grinning as he overpowered his opponent. With a swift motion, he drove his sword through the soldier’s chest, twisting the blade before yanking it free. Blood poured from the wound as the creature collapsed at his feet.
"Too easy," Timothy muttered, stepping over the corpse.
Iris wasn’t far behind, her sword flashing as she cut down the last of the soldiers. The room was now filled with the bodies of the fallen, blood pooling across the floor. The sushi restaurant was in ruins, tables overturned, and walls scorched by plasma fire.
Timothy wiped the blood from his sword and turned to Iris. "You good?"
She nodded, wiping sweat from her brow. "Yeah. But seriously, this is getting old. Can’t we just have one meal without someone trying to kill us?"
Timothy chuckled, sheathing his sword. "Probably not."
Suddenly, a low hum filled the air, and Timothy’s senses flared again. This time, the energy was different—stronger, darker. He turned toward the source, his eyes narrowing as he saw a massive tear forming in the fabric of reality.
From the rift, an enormous figure began to emerge—a being even larger than the Architect of the Void they had faced earlier. Its body was a grotesque fusion of organic and mechanical parts, pulsating with dark energy. Its eyes glowed with a malevolent red light, and its hands *****led with destructive power.
Timothy’s grip tightened on his sword. "Well, shit."
The figure stepped fully into their world, its towering form casting a shadow over the city. It let out a roar that shook the very foundations of the earth, and the air around it seemed to *****le with energy.
Iris stared up at the monstrosity, her face pale. "What… the hell is that?"
Timothy sighed, his eyes hardening. "That’s the Big Bad from beyond the Omniverse." He *****ed his knuckles, a cold smile playing on his lips. "Looks like we’re in for a real fight."
The battle wasn’t over.
It was only just beginning.
